Forming a band

forming a bandForming a band is a terrific way to have fun and if you’re given the right breaks - to make yourself and your fellow band members rich and famous.

Dependant upon your role within the band, you may need to be outgoing and slightly extrovert. I emphasise may because if you just intent to sit at the back playing drums, keeping your mouth shut, then you needn’t interact with anyone outside of the band itself.

Some well-known bands will perform without any audience interaction and they get away with it for the simple fact that they have made it and are famous.

When you are starting out you must establish as soon as possible a rapport with your audience or they may begin to lose interest. This could certainly happen if you were playing in the local pub or village hall where the paying customers didn’t know who it was they were going to see. They may even be just out for the night and wandered in to see what all the ‘fuss’ is about. (Notice I didn’t use the word ‘noise’!!). Some bands will mingle with the crowd whilst performing and even give a lucky fan a chance to sing with his or her idol. Even if you have less talent than you think you have, antics such as this will warm you to the hearts of the audience. If you are lucky enough however to have sparked some interest already and the crowd have been to your gigs before – life will be made considerably easier.
